Bat Appreciation Day and Can Someone Please Get that Bat off of my House?
Friday April 17th was Bat Appreciation Day. Yes, you read that correctly, little brown, fly at night bats. Who knew there was such a thing? The timing is funny as I just had a bat on the exterior of the house. I found that just knowing the bat was hanging there creeped me out terribly. I know they are great for eating their weight many times over every day in bugs. Yeah, that is terrific, but it does not mean that I want to see them on my house… Finally, last Sunday night I mentioned to my friend next door that I would like it if her husband could get rid of the bat. I am embarrassed, but not too much, to know that I could not even bring myself to hold a broom up to shoo it away.
How silly I told myself over and over, but I just could not do it. The thought that it would fly into my hair or get into the house was too much.
Apparently, my neighbor friend came over to get rid of the bat that night and as he bumped it, he described as like a leaf falling to the ground. Silently fluttering down to its resting place. Only this bat-leaf landed in one of my planters. See below. It was dead and that is why it did not move on, but who knew. I appreciated my neighbor getting it down for me. But now I am left with that bat in the planter and I still find I do not want to be near it. I need to plant the planter so I will have to remove the poor creature, but I am still freaked out about it. How silly is that?
I broke down and removed it after I snapped the picture, but ugh. Not a happy mission. It made me think that there are times in our lives where we just have to grit our teeth and do it. Whatever it is. We do not like it, we do not want to do it, but we must. Then we feel good, like we accomplished something significant. I guess that is the case. When we can overcome our natural aversion to doing something and persevere through, we should pat ourselves on the back, for we display fortitude and inner strength to push through, don't we?
Right, so for me I was able to push through half of the battle. Perhaps next time I can complete the mission in its entirety!
What about you? Leave me a comment with your thoughts.
What timing! You expressed my feelings exactly, Except, I haven’t pushed all the way through, yet. I am at the point in my tutorial where we study building a website and blog. I am sooo overwhelmed that I seriously thought about quitting. Because I follow you, I haven’t quit, yet. So I will go back, study your website and reread your blogs. Thanks for the encouragement you didn’t even know you were giving. Prayers and Blessings to overcome your obstacles.
