Journey To A Completed Mixed Media Abstract Part 1
Today I started a new painting that is on a 30x30” canvas, it will be Mixed Media primarily Acrylic work. I always go through several emotions when starting a new piece. The first is excitement. I cannot wait to see what is lurking in the canvas. Most of the time I do not start a painting with a destination in mind. Rather I start with a prayer and a dream that something unusual and interesting will show its face. After starting the painting, the trepidation sets in, after all new works are a little on the ugly side when you start. The colors may be pretty, but not much else is worth sharing early in the process. This time though, I am going to bite the bullet and share progress at various times throughout the paintings “birth” process. I will also tell you a little about my process on the way. I look forward to sharing the adventure with you.
Really does not look like much does it? So far I made some initial random marks with pencil and graphite. I then worked 5 colors in allowing each to dry before the next to lay in a base coat of color on the canvas. As I added each color I scratched into the color to reveal some of what was underneath. I will continue doing this throughout as I like seeing the colors peaking through and the texture this creates in the final result. I will post more pictures as I make progress.
Let me know if you have any thoughts or questions. Yesterday's painting sold last night and I really appreciate the purchase. I love the painting and hope the new owners will also.
Excited to see what developed at the end
It’s very helpful to see your process.
