"The Beginning" is a mixed media painting depicting the first 7 days of creation. The wonder, the importance of man in God's image. From nothing our world and we were made. This painting is one of my Beginning series of paintings focused on considering the exact moment the universe started to become.

Do you wonder what happened in the early moments where the earth, man and all beings were created? I found myself spending quite a bit of time contemplating Genesis recently and this painting "The Beginning" is one of several representing my musings.

I was particularly struck by a broader realization and understanding that there is a tie between us and God through Adam related to creativity. I had never spent time thinking about the gift of creativity that God gave Adam through giving him to gift of naming the animals. The faith that God illustrated, by indicating he would never challenge their names and no one would ever change them, is truly awe inspiring and inspirational to me.

I find myself praying while painting and thinking and being swept up in the moment God decided to bring the earth and universe into being. The first creative act…

Then I think about God creating us in his likeness, another act of creativity…

Then of how Adam must have felt being gifted with the naming of all animals, Man's first act of creativity…

These thoughts and so many others were stewing and whirling in my mind. This is the second painting is the one you see above, I am calling it “The Beginning”.

I know you will see what you are to see in it, but I feel compelled to share what I feel and see in “The Beginning".

I see God being represented, in a very abstract way, on the top left at the very moment he breathed out the universe, earth and already knew that humans were to be and what we would be.

I see chaos and then the magnificence of it all coming into existence. In a sense flying into place.

I see the earth and envision layers shifting into place; water, land and air on the top right.

There are 3 angels watching from afar in the lower right. I can imagine their wings have stopped in the wonder of God's grace. They stand awestruck.

That as God breathed out thought of man, made in God's image, lower middle to left, being pulled into creation and into being on the earth.

This painting has touched my soul and helped me begin to sort out the wonder I feel. At they same time it reminds me there is mystery yet to be understood, yet knowing I will only know a fraction of the truth in this world.

I really want to know. What do you see?
